USD 407 Steering Committee Meeting 2-21-24

The USD 407 Facilities Steering Committee held its April meeting Wednesday with architects from Schaefer Architecture and members of the public at Russell High School.

Architects Terry Wiggers and Malcolm Watkins were in attendance, but the discussion was led by Steering Committee Co-Chairs Mandy Trout and Jordan Harrison.

The meeting included members of the committee, members of the public and USD 407 staff.

The meeting opened with a discussion about the property tax impact on residential, commercial and agricultural properties with various bond amounts and the impact a corresponding sales tax would or would not have.

A mobile survey was then conducted with attendees to gauge interest in a bond, the size of a bond, the likelihood of a bond passing and facilities priorities.

Following the survey, effective education and communication to the public regarding the understanding and need for a bond to improve school facilities was identified as a priority.

Discussion was then opened to the room and included ideas on talking points and ways to educate the community on the need for a bond.
