Bronco Baseball and Softball Teams Swept at Ellsworth

The Russell-Victoria Baseball and Softball teams took to the road on Tuesday for doubleheaders against one-time North Central Activities Association rival Ellsworth.

Both teams came up empty-handed as the Baseball Broncos were swept by the Bearcats 10-7 and 10-8 while the Softballers were defeated by scores of 17-3 and 17-4.

Max Evans (0-1) took the loss for Russell-Victoria in Game 1 of the Baseball twinbill, as he was roughed up for nine runs in an inning-plus of work despite being afforded an early 2-0 lead.  Ellsworth led 10-2 after two frames but the Broncos battled back in the late innings before falling short. Evans, Mason Rohr and Matt Pfeifer paced the Broncos offensively with two hits apiece.

In the nightcap, Russell-Victoria led 6-5 after four innings of a back and forth contest before Ellsworth rallied for the win.  Jaxon Ross (0-1) took the loss for the Broncos who were plagued on defense by five errors.  Evans, Kyle Huser and Wyatt Griffin each collected two hits.

Russell-Victoria (0-3) returns to the Shaffer Sports Complex on Friday, April 5 for a doubleheader with Cimarron-Ingalls.  The two teams met in the Quarterfinals of the Class 3A Regional in Goodland last May with Russell-Victoria prevailing 9-1.  First pitch for Game 1 is set for 4 p.m.

It was a long afternoon for the Softball team still searching for its first win of 2024 as the Lady Bearcats scored a total of 34 runs durng the twinbill.  Jonae Radke took the loss in Game 1 for the Lady Broncos while Gracelynn Dinkel took the loss in Game 2 while pitching a complete game.

Russell-Victoria (0-5) is off until Tuesday, April 9 when they host Goodland at Memorial Park for a doubleheader which begins at 4 p.m.
