Bronco Baseball Drops Two to SE Saline

HAYS-The Russell-Victoria Baseball team celebrated Senior Day at an unusual venue on Friday when Mother Nature forced a change of plans.

The Broncos were supposed to host their Senior Day contests against Southeast of Saline at the Shaffer Sports Complex on Thursday but soaking rains postponed the doubleheader and the wet grounds combined with the Russell Relays being held next door at Shaffer Field on Friday forced a move of the games to the new turf infields at Bickle Schmidt Sports Complex in Hays.   

Russell-Victoria  started well in Game 1 of the doubleheader before falling 6-3 and then the Trojans took the nightcap 8-3.

The Broncos took a 3-1 into the fourth inning of the first game before Southeast of Saline put together a rally and then tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning to put the game away.  In Game 2, the Trojans had the fast start, leading 7-0 in the third inning before coasting to the victory.

Russell-Victoria (5-9) is next in action on Monday, May 9 when they travel to Ellis for a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for April 22 but postponed by high winds.  First pitch for Game 1 is set for 4 p.m.
