Game 1: Russell-Victoria 3, Cimarron 1
Game 2: Cimarron 7, Russell-Victoria 5

The Russell-Victoria Baseball team, which had played just three games in the space of two weeks returned to action with a doubleheader split against Cimarron Friday afternoon at the Shaffer Field Complex.

The Broncos took Game 1, 3-1 before the Blue Jays rallied to take the nightcap, 7-5.

In the first game, Mason Rohr (1-1) went the distance and battled out of a jam in the top of the seventh inning. Facing the 105-pitch limit that pitchers have for weekly game action, Rohr secured the final out on his 104th pitch to help the Broncos claim their first victory of the 2024 season.

In Game 2, the Broncos got off to a hot start by plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Cimarron rallied and grabbed a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning before Russell-Victoria knotted the score at 5-5 heading to the fifth inning.

The Blue Jays scored their winning runs with a two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning and then retired the Broncos in order in the bottom of the inning to gain the split.

Russell-Victoria (1-4) was haunted by missed opportunities throughout the game, stranding 10 men on base.

The Broncos return to action on Tuesday, April 9 with a rare road trip inside Russell County when they journey to Lucas to face Sylvan-Lucas in the Mustangs' home opener.  First pitch for Game 1 is set for 4 p.m. and the games can be heard on KRSL 95,9 FM and online at KRSL.com
