The defending state champion Russell K-18 Softball team played on its home field for the first time in 2022 on Tuesday evening at Memorial Park.

Mother Nature however was less than enthused by the occasion as Russell's doubleheader with Ness City was suspended by weather in the top of the third inning of Game 1 with Ness City leading 2-0.

After a scoreless first inning, Ness City plated two runs with two out in the top of the second frame when the park sirens which indicate that lightning has been detected went off for the first time resulting in a 17-minute delay.  After play resumed Russell loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the second inning before Ness City put an end to the threat.  Then with one out in the top of the third, play was halted again and the game was suspended.

No date for a possible resumption has been announced at this time.  Russell is next scheduled to be in action at Ellsworth on Thursday, June 16.  Russell's next scheduled home doubleheader is on Tuesday, June 21 against Osborne.  First pitch for both twinbills is set for 6:30 p.m.
