Lady Broncos Season Ends at Concordia Regional
The Russell-Victoria Lady Broncos were eliminated by Minneapolis, 12-2 in the first round of the Class 3A Softball Regional at the Concordia Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on Monday but the entire first round was pushed back 24 hours by rain in the Concordia and North Central Kansas area.
Minneapolis put the game out of reach with a scoring barrage that gave the Lady Lions a 12-0 lead in the second inning and from there, they cruised to victory. Minneapolis (15-6) advances to face Marysville in the semifinals on Wednesday, May 17. The Lady Bulldogs upset North Central Kansas League rival and host Concordia 3-1 later Tuesday.
Russell-Victoria concludes its season with a record of 3-18. The Lady Broncos were a very young team in 2023, far removed from the squad that came within one win of the state tournament in 2021. Still Russell-Victoria showed improvement as the season went on and loses just one senior, Sydney Kraus off the team and is expected to feature several returning players for the 2024 season.
