The Russell High School Boys and Girls Wrestling teams began 2023 Thursday evening by participating in the Larned Round Robin.

Both teams took part in the event after Alan Dolezal Invitational annually hosted by the Russell Boys Wrestling team was canceled in December and the Girls were unable to take part in a tournament in Hoisington.

On the boys side, Xzyphren Donner placed 5th at 106 pounds and Kaleb Thull placed 7th.  Kohle Nuss placed 3rd at 126 pounds, Trey Zorn placed 5th at 132 pounds.  Dylan Sullivan placed 7th at 138 pounds, Ethan Koetkemeyer placed 5th at 150 pounds, Brayden Suchy was 2nd at 157 pounds, Teagan Pfeifer placed 2nd at 165 pounds, Brayden Strobel placed 2nd at 175 pounds, and Andrew Boettcher placed 3rd at 190 pounds. Three wrestlers competed at 215 pounds with Chandler Poche placing 5th, Dax Ervin finished 6th and Jamis Self finished 7th.  Overall, Russell as a team tallied 128.5 points in an event where no trophies were awarded, therefore there were no official team standings.

Three Lady Bronco wrestlers competed Thursday evening in Larned.  Madison Raybern placed 2nd at 105 pounds, Allison Grieve was 2nd at 110 pounds and Cambrea Solz placed 3rd at 130 pounds.  Overall, the RHS Girls scored 11 points as a team.

Both teams will compete in the Norton Invitational on Saturday, January 7.  Matches begin at 9:30 a.m.
