The Russell Recreation youth basketball season officially got underway on Saturday, January 9.

Russell has partnered with the Claflin, Ellinwood, Ellsworth and Hoisington recreation commissions again this winter to form the Central Kansas Recreation League. Each team hosts one Saturday of games.

Russell was selected to host the first Saturday of games. 28 teams combined to play 15 total games at Russell High School's Amos Morris Gym and Little Gym.

Teams are broke down into four divisions - 3rd/4th grade boys, 3rd/4th grade girls, 5th/6th grade boys and 5th/6th grade girls. Russell has one team in each division except for the 5th/6th grade division where they have two teams.

Each game was limited to approximately 50 spectators as KSHSAA and USD 407 COVID-19 protocols were used.

RRC extends a special thank you to RHS Athletic Director Scott Nuss and Russell County USD 407 for use of the facilities.

Games continue on Saturday, January 16 at Ellsworth.
