Russell Splits at Hill City

Girls: Russell 41, Hill City 38
Boys: Hill City 59, Russell 45

The Russell High School girls basketball team traveled to Hill City on Friday, February 19 and won 41-38.

The Lady Broncos led 14-10 after the first quarter, 25-18 at halftime and 33-29 after three periods. The Lady Ringnecks got a steal and a layup in the final seconds of the game, but Russell survived and got the win.

Emerson Nichols paced Russell with 12 points. Rylan Reeves got her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Alissa Keith led Hill City with 21 points.

The Lady Broncos were 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

Hill City outrebounded Russell 27 to 26 and 13 to 5 on the offensive glass.

The Russell girls improve to 8-10 overall and 4-6 in the Mid-Continent League.

The Russell boys lost 59-45 at Hill City on Friday.

The Ringnecks jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first period and led 34-22 at the break. Hill City pulled away in the third stanza and led 48-32 heading into the final frame, eventually cruising to the victory.

Braydon Gibson led Russell with 10 points. Andrew Kraus followed with nine points.

Trenton Long led the Ringnecks with 17 points. Kyle Richmeier followed with 16 points and Derek Keith scored 12 points.

The Russell boys were also 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

Hill City outrebounded Russell 24 to 22 and 7 to 3 on the offensive boards.

The Broncos committed 18 turnovers, while the Ringnecks only turned the ball over eight times.

The Russell boys fall to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in the MCL.
