Russell's Birky Headed Back to State
Russell's Cole Birky has been Mr. Consistent this spring. Nine tournaments. Nine top 10 finishes. And the ninth was the sweetest as the RHS senior punched his ticket to the Class 3A State Tournament next week.
Birky fired a 94 and placed fourth at the 3A Regional Tournament in Hays at Smoky Hill Country Club on Monday, May 17. No other Broncos played in the regional. Ty Sides from Phillipsburg won the individual title with an 80. TMP's Landon Rozean was second with an 83 and TMP's Jackson Schulte was third with a 92.
TMP won the team title with a 395. Hoisington was second with a 406.
This will be Birky's third trip to state. He qualified as a freshman and sophomore, but did not have the opportunity his junior year as the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 3A State Tournament will be held at the Hesston Golf Course May 24-25.
