Stockton Boys Defeat Russell to Close Out MCL Tournament
The Russell High School boys basketball team lost 60-51 to Stockton on Thursday, January 21 in the Mid-Continent League Tournament's ninth place game at the Stockton Grade School Gym.
Stockton led 15-9 after one quarter and 34-21 at halftime. Russell got as close as trailing 35-30 early in the third period, but the Tigers pulled back ahead 51-38 after three quarters. Stockton survived by hitting free throws down the stretch.
Jordayn Buhrle led Russell with 13 points. Jackson Cross followed with a career-high 12 points.
Johnny Hamel paced Stockton with 16 points. Ethan Means followed with 15 points. Kameran Hamel scored 12 points.
The Tigers buried nine three-pointers in the game.
Stockton also outrebounded Russell 29 to 27 and six to four on the offensive glass.
Russell falls to 5-6 overall and finishes tenth in the MCL Tournament.
