TMP-Marian Picks Up Season-Opening Sweep of Lady Broncos

Brooke Koenigsman drove in 11 total runs and TMP-Marian pitching held the Russell-Victoria Softball team to a total of three hits as the Lady Monarchs opened the 2024 season with a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Broncos 15-1 and 12-0 on Friday afternoon at Memorial Park.
After TMP-Marian plated four runs in the top of the first inning of Game 1, Russell-Victoria picked up its only tally of the afternoon when Hannah Gideon who had reached base on an error, scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 4-1. After tha,t the Lady Monarchs scored four more runs in the second inning and added seven more in the fourth frame to pull away for the win. Saige Moos (0-1) took the loss for the Lady Broncos.
In Game 2, Russell-Victoria trailed just 2-0 after an inning and a half but was unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities. TMP-Marian then scored three runs in the third inning, five runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning to once again enforce the run-rule as this game like the first one ended after five innings.
Koenigsman, who scored 31 points for TMP-Marian against Russell during the Basketball season drove in six runs in Game 1 and five more in Game 2 while Gracelynn Dinkel (0-1) took the loss for Russell-Victoria.
The Lady Broncos (0-2) are next scheduled to be in action on Tuesday, March 26 when they host the Rooks County Co-Op of Plainville-Stockton at Memorial Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
